Baked Macaroni and Cheese

This simple Baked Macaroni and Cheese is a favorite at our family gatherings. On top is a thick and crispy layer of cheese , and inside is gooey chessy macaroni. We love this dish so much that we made it for both our engagement party and wedding reception.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese

  • Serves: 6
  • Prep time: 20 minutes
  • Cook time: 30 minutes


Directions: Hide step-by-step pictures

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil.

  2. Cook macaroni until just al dente. Don’t over cook! Drain pasta and run them under cold water for 20 seconds to stop them from cooking more. Set aside.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, add milk, heavy cream, sour cream, cheeses (except for the topping cheese), onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, red pepper, salt and black pepper to your taste. Mix well together.

  4. When you are satisfied with the taste, add the eggs. Mix well.

  5. Pour cooked macaroni in milk and cheese mixture. Fold the macaroni in to combine.

  6. Butter a 7x9 inches baking dish. Pour the macaroni mixture into it. Spread the 1/2 cup of mixed mozzarella and sharp cheddar on top.

  7. Bake for 35 – 45 minutes. Broil for 5 minutes or until the cheese on top is browned.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes. Garnish with some paprika and black pepper. Serve warm.

  9. You can make it in advance and cover the dish with foil paper when baking. When reheating, Remove the foil paper so the cheese can brown.
